Certificate Description

English is the global language of business. National University's English Language Learning Program meets the needs of each student and is designed for non-native English speakers who want to learn English and improve their professional and workplace communication skills.

The English Language Learning: Communication for the Workplace Certificate is designed to meet students where they are at on their language learning journey. English Communication for the Workplace includes 12 career-themed courses. Each 4-week course is offered online with optional, instructor-led, live sessions in the morning and evening Monday-Friday. Students must complete 12 required courses to earn the English Language Learning Certificate: Communication for the Workplace.

Based on the Level Test language assessment score, students are placed into one of four sublevels within the first course of the certificate program. The sublevels are Emerge, Evolve, Explore, Engage. At the beginning of each course, students will complete another Level Test to assess their progress and determine their course content level. The content will align with the student's skill level while providing enough of a challenge to grow and gain confidence listening, reading, writing, and speaking English.

To be eligible to enroll in the English Language Learning Certificate: English for Academic Purposes learners must complete the following:


Estimated Time to Completion

The English Language Learning Certificate: Communication for the Workplace is a 12-month certificate program. Students will be working on 1 course per month.


Access Time

Learners will have access to each course one at a time. Each course is 4 weeks. Total access time for the certificate is 6 months.


Certificate of Completion

Learners will be awarded a National University Workforce Education Solutions Professional and Continuing Education Certificate of Completion after completion of all 12 ELL courses as part of this certificate program.
