Course Description

In the nineth course of the Certificate in Online Teaching, Assessing Learning in a Multimodal Environment, you will learn how to assess learning in multi-modal environments. Understand the theories and approaches to assessment in multimodal environments, exploring the various assessment approaches to build learning knowledge and skills. Careful online assessment planning will yield meaningful online assessment results that can not only help students to improve their performance, but can also inform your teaching and practice.

The following questions will be addressed in this course. Please keep these questions in mind as you proceed. 

  • How do I design my course to include an effective assessment cycle? 
  • Which should I plan first: assessments linked to learning objectives or instructional engagement? 
  • Are there specific types of assessments I could adapt for a multi-modal delivery?  
  • How do I engage learners in their own online assessment practices?

  • Observe application of skills through performance assessment
  • Use authentic assessment in online courses
  • Use simulation activities to assess learning
  • Show progress over time with portfolio assessment
