Course Description

Developing an engaging online learning space for students where students have high participation requires well thought out plans that are developed with intention. Students need to be engaged in their learning, participating in the process, and feel like they are part of a community of learners. All of this is possible in an online class by making instructional decisions that support all learners and increase access to the curriculum. Getting students excited to learn is important. This course will explain different ways to increase student engagement in online learning.

The following are this module's guiding questions:

  • How do I build an engaging online course?
  • How can I increase participation online?
  • Why will they engage in the content?
  • How do I create an online community with my students?
  • How do I meet the individual needs of students while teaching online?

Learning Objectives

 By the end of this course students will be able to:

  • Discover ways to build an engaging online environment.
  • Analyze community building practices for online distance learning.
  • Examine ways to support learners’ needs through distance learning.
  • Develop a plan for increasing engagement in online course.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites required to take this course. A teacher licensure is also not required, but highly recommended to help better understand best practices in developing online curriculum.
