Course Description

The Foundations of Supervision introductory course is a six-credit-hour foundational course for clinical supervisors. The course is broken up into six individual models that address the myriad aspects of supervision training: the basics of supervision, characteristics of quality supervisors, administrative expectations of supervisors, models of supervision, therapist development, and supervision challenges. The Foundations of Supervision course provides an understanding of the process of supervision, the expectations of supervisors, and a deeper understanding of the supervision process.

Learning Objectives

  1. Explain the major expectations of supervisors supervising clinical work.
  2. Compare multiple models of supervision.
  3. Distinguish different stages of therapist development.
  4. Apply administrative expectations to their supervision practice.
  5. Solve common challenges or dilemmas that may exist in the supervision relationship.
