Course Description

This course focuses on the practices, mitigation and communication strategies during a disaster. Disasters always pose unique challenges that require expert and effective communication, a thorough planning process, and incident action plans to help reduce the threat of harm and confusion.  This 8-hr online course will provide communication strategies, planning processes, and emergency operation techniques to help cope with a pending or ongoing disaster.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Develop an understanding of emergency management and relation to communication and planning
  • Apply strategies and procedures for emergency management
  • Understand the planning process and the different roles of management during a disaster
  • Gain knowledge of incident action and command
  • Demonstrate evaluation processes and procedures in reflection after a disaster
